A head stud is a threaded rod or bolt that is used to secure the cylinder head of an internal combustion engine to the engine block. The cylinder head houses the valves, spark plugs, and often the camshafts, and it forms a critical part of the engine’s combustion chamber.
Installation: Head studs are installed into the engine block, and their threaded ends protrude above the engine block surface. The cylinder head is then placed over these studs, and nuts are used to secure the head to the studs.
Benefits Over Head Bolts: Head studs are often preferred over traditional head bolts for securing cylinder heads because they provide more consistent and even clamping force across the cylinder head. This can help in creating a better seal between the cylinder head gasket and the engine block.
